Our "good morning"

What a delightful start to the day, to look over the Arno in the marvellous setting of our Breakfast Room. In the XIX century it was this Florentine residence's ballroom and it still has the original frescoes which completely cover the beautiful vaulted ceiling.

In this environment, which maintains all the fascination of a past era, you can have a delicious breakfast up to 11.00 a.m. before immersing yourself in the splendour of Florence. You will find something for every taste, from bakeries and cookies to a healthy based breakfast for those who wish so. Breakfast is included in the cost of the room. Room service is also available at a extra charge.

From aperitifs... to after-dinner drinks

From the wonderful terrace of the American Bar on the top floor, you will have a unique view over the river Arno, Palazzo Vecchio, Brunelleschi's magnificent Dome and the splendid hills which surround Florence. This is where you can enjoy your Welcome Drink, which will be offered on arrival, with relaxing background music and – why not? – where you can taste typical local and Italian dishes accompanied by a glass of excellent Chianti Classico.

Our history

The building incorporates an ancient tower, presumably part of the clique of the Importuni family, which had their properties in this neighborhood.

Destroyed by the Ghibellini in 1260 and rebuilt at a later stage: from this period it is still preserved a portion of wall painted with birds and fur theme. In 1515 the building was bought by the Augustinians, who settled in those years in the nearby church of Santo Stefano al Ponte and who kept on managing the property until 1783. In the 19th century became the boarding house Quisisana, popular amongst intellectuals and artists, mainly Anglo-Saxon.

In the 20th century the boarding house kept its features from the previous century almost unchanged, so much so that, in 1985, was chosen by the director James Ivory as the set for some of the scenes of the movie version of the novel by Edward Morgan Forster "A Room with a View". Currently the palace – after undergoing the necessary restoration works and a major renovation – is occupied by the Hotel degli Orafi. Externally the building overlooks the lungarno degli Archibusieri with an ample façade that spreads on five axis and five floors and continues over the arcade that stands above via dei Georgofili on two more axis and three more floors. Over what once was the main access door there is a shield with a variant of the insignia of the Fabbroni family (light blue, with a golden stripe with three black hammers, put along the direction of the fabric, and over all these things the round emblem of the Florentine people).

Staying in Chianti

The Ormanni Estate... an Arcadia without time

The estate takes its name from the original owners, The Ormanni family, mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy. One of their properties is now a large agricultural area between Poggibonsi and Castellina, in the heart of the Chianti district. This property was later passed on to the Scarlatti family and then to the Medici's.

Since 1818 the property is owned by the Brini-Batacchi family who has not only fostered appreciation for their products (the Chianti Classico wine and the oil), but has cleverly restored some of their farmhouses into comfortable apartments for 2 to 10 people. All apartments are furnished in typical Tuscan style and are also adapted for disabled guests. Here you can enjoy your vacation in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, relaxing by the poolside or having a barbecue with your family and friends.

Our wish, to which we are most dedicated, is to welcome you to our home and share with you our sincere love of this corner of Tuscany.

We have created twelve bedrooms of three different categories, ranging from 21 to 55 sqm in size, that all enjoy splendid views over the surrounding countryside. Elegantly furnished, the rooms have been designed to render your stay intimate and comfortable. Wooden floors, beamed ceilings, pastel colors, precious fabrics and furniture chosen exclusively for these rooms and designed for us by a Florentine artisan create a warm and sophisticated atmosphere. The original sketches by our Great Grandfather, Ugo Giovannozzi, engineer and Florentine architect of the early 1900', evoke magnificent memories of the past.
